Getting the Most out of Your Integrative GroupTherapy Experience This group is based on the principle that the mind and body together express and reflect our most deeply held beliefs about ourselves and our relationships with others. This therapy group combines thoughts, feelings, and sensations to give you opportunities to learn about yourself and others, and about your relationships. The group will utilize body awareness and self-expression. 1.Body Awareness In order for us to know about ourselves we need to be aware, to be able to know what we are thinking and feeling, and what we are sensing in our bodies. This group will help you to develop awareness in all three domains. Awareness of thoughts will help with awareness of feelings and sensations; awareness of sensations will help with awareness of thoughts and feelings. The group process will help you to be able to describe your thoughts, feelings and sensations in words. Being able to label these inner states will help you to understand yourself. And understanding will help you to make decisions that are empowering and healing for you. Awareness alone can get you moving when you feel stuck. 2.Self-expression The group will give you an opportunity to express yourself, your feelings and thoughts, through talking and through movement. At times we can express ourselves more readily through talking, and at other times through movement. We will have a chance to try out new ways of moving and expressing different parts of ourselves. These new ways will be suggested by the leader, and by you, the group members. Change occurs in the present, the here-and-now. Group therapy gives members new experiences, challenging old beliefs, and leading to empowerment and growth. |
